I must say, it’s a little hard to get back into real life today after such a great long weekend filled with family and food. The good news is, the retail holiday bonanza isn’t over, and there are still deals to be had! The best part? They don’t involve standing in a single line. Thank you Cyber Monday!
Interestingly, Black Friday wasn’t so impressive this year. Sales were down 11% this Black Friday weekend, with consumers spending $50.9 billion over the past four days vs. $57.4 billion in 2013. There’s some debate over whether this is a bad sign for the economy – shows consumers spent less – or a good sign – shows consumers cared less about discount.
I think the sales drop is not saying much about the economy, but rather is because the “Black Friday” shopping period got dragged on for so long this year. Many retailers were promoting sales all last week. I’d be interested to see what the numbers look like if someone calculated the spending over the full week around Thanksgiving.
That extended discount period could be a good thing for you all. Just in case you didn’t get a chance to snag some deals this past weekend, here’s a highlight of Cyber Monday sales going on today:
